At KJ Folk Music and KJ Ceilidhs, we are committed to doing our part for a fairer, greener, and more sustainable world. We recognise the impact small businesses can have, and we align our work with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals where relevant and realistic to our operations.

  • Turn off equipment when not in use to save energy

  • Pay above the Musicians’ Union minimum rates

  • Support freelance musicians with fair contracts and prompt payments

  • Prioritise UK-based talent, strengthening the local creative economy

  • Ensure inclusive booking policies

  • Work with a diverse range of musicians from across the UK

  • Support access to traditional music for all audiences

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

  • Promote local and regional performances to reduce unnecessary travel

  • Encourage community events, cultural celebration, and inclusive social gatherings

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

  • Minimise single-use items at events

  • Reuse cables, costumes, cases, and printed materials where possible

  • Prioritise digital over paper communication

SDG 13: Climate Action

  • Encourage car-sharing or regional musician bookings to reduce carbon emissions

  • Consider verified carbon offsetting for longer journeys

  • Stay informed about sustainable touring practices and apply what’s feasible

  • Collaborate with ethical venues, suppliers, and event organisers

  • Champion sustainability through conversations with clients and partners

  • Engage with other businesses working towards similar goals
