For care homes and community settings, Kathryn Johnstone, owner of KJ Folk Music, delivers outstanding From the Armchair folk music experiences that light up the entire room. These sessions are lively, warm, and deeply engaging - full of laughter, connection, and moments of shared joy.

Designed specifically for seated participation, each experience encourages movement, singing, conversation, and emotional connection. Residents don’t just watch - they join in, reminisce, laugh together, and leave feeling uplifted and energised. The impact is immediate and tangible.

Once we have agreed a date, please reserve your date here for our system to automatically generate your invoice, ready to send over to your finance department.

 

At checkout, please select “Pay via invoice”. This will generate an invoice. We recognise that care homes and community organisations have internal financial departments. We offer care homes up to 30 days from the performance date to pay the invoice, as per our terms & conditions, for maximum flexibility for the homes we work with.

Scotland from the Armchair

 

 

A warm, immersive Scottish experience with familiar songs, traditional tunes, stories.. highland bagpipes, and the accordion. Kathryn teach optional seated ceilidh-style movements including clapping and hand-jive style movements. Designed to encourage gentle movement, singing along, smiles, and shared memories.

 

 


 

 

England from the Armchair

 

 

Traditional English songs, folk tunes, and stories, with simple, inclusive activities adapted for limited mobility, with KJ on the accordion. There is plenty of opportunities for joining in, at whatever level feels comfortable. Kathryn brings bells and hankies for residents to join in with, inspired by morris dancing and dances adapted for seated participation.

 

 


 

 

Ireland from the Armchair

 

 

Well-loved Irish songs and tunes, foot-stomping rhythms, and relaxed audience participation. A joyful, welcoming experience that encourages connection, participation, and lifts the room.  KJ plays lots of jigs and reels on the accordion and teaches some Irish ceilidh dancing for residents to join in with. This workshop also comes with highland bagpipes to show similarities between Scottish and Irish traditional music and how many Irish tunes are popular on the highland bagpipes.
